Photometric values
There are four important photometric values in lighting.
- 1) Luminous flux (lm): quantity of luminous energy produced by a source in a unit of time; the reference unity of measurement is lumen.
- 2) Luminous intensity (cd): quantity of light produced by a point source that spread in a specific direction; the reference unity of measurement is candela.
- 3) Illuminance (Lux): the photometric value that allow to measure objectively the quantity of incidence light on a specific surface; the reference unity of measurement is lux.
- 4) Luminance (cd/m2): the feeling perceived by human eye when directly hit by the light produced by the source or reflected by a surface; the reference unity of measurement is candela per m2.
